 Heatherbank (Supers) Cricket Club versus Rhodes, 7th October 2012

Welcome to the D&P cricket Blog. I have taken it upon myself to start a blog post\ match report on behalf of D&P cricket Port Elizabeth.
Heatherbank C C is not only the Club I play for but the Club I love playing for and it has members that support and back D&P cricket.

Take our Supers this season 4 members in the squad now using full kit and 2 other members using gloves and other apparel.
Enough rambling now onto the match report:

Heatherbank CC travelled up to G-Town(Grahamstown) Bright and early on the 7/10/2012 let me just say a Sunday morning of all days.
It would not be a trip to Rhodes without the trusted toilet stop oh wait no wrong year at Nanaga, but it wouldn't be a trip without a Nanaga stop  for a Pie or rooster brood. Unfortunately not the day for Pie's only pies we saw was on the field.
We arrived yet again at Rhodes without any change rooms being open things will never change O well to the cricket.
Heatherbank C C fielded first on an overcast day in GTown a sticky\wettish and grassy track. We put Rhodes early under pressure had them 46/4 then 60odd for 5 down, but like the saying goes the tail must waggggggggg.
We bowled Rhodes out on the last ball of the innings for 185 runs. Robey and the Apple I pod Eugene both got 3 wickets a piece. It was a mediocre start for Heatherbank C C in the field after our friendly but much better. To restrict them to 185 with our fielding one just thinks they should never have even gotten past 130 - drop catch here and many missed fielding errors in the field as Robey would say come on Toll Gates.
Never the less the score was on the board and the chase down would have to happen.

Good lunch start to the season what would be referred to in England as Teas served and Job done!

As we headed into bat team sensed calm and relaxed but once again the Heatherbank CC Super league cricket team were under pressure with the bat we found ourselves 40 odd for 3 and then 44 odd for 4 after a risky run out seeing Riddle departing. Then the fight back from M. Robey and Russel dD muscling it around to get us into fighting chance putting together a good partnership. Russel departs after guiding the ball down to Thirdman and Is brilliantly caught by the keeper, making a good 22 and Robey getting a questionable LBW for 43 game poised now with Werner and Tim trying to claw our way back we found ourselves needing 57 as Whinney enters with 3 wickets in hand. "All that is need is 4 runs an over" wise words from Werner. As Werner falls and Duncan falls from the ball holding back on a length like it has done all day popping and being caught and bowled. It is now left to the D&P team Gino and Whinney once again enjoying there 2nd partnership of the season. Now needing 22 off 3 overs and feeling the BMT is now needed.
A four is hit here and a couple of 2's we found ourselves needing 11 of the last over tense stuff I say tense stuff I wasn't in the stands but I can imagine what was going on. The guys not knowing whether to sit stand or breathe. LAST OVER, Whinney on strike Jonty bowls single first ball 10 off the last 5. Eugene calm and poised we get 4 off the next 3. Crunch time we feel something is going to happen. Jonty bowls and Gino hits him straight over Mid On "Remember 6 to win" is it SIX What - What is that the game HBCC rush off the stand just short. FOUR. 2 needed now off the last ball. Eugene and Whinney know, no matter what we running the last ball. Jonty Bowls a short ball Gino Hooks over short Fine Leg on the 45 and we run...... 1..... 2            HBCC WIN wait Whinney still running the 3rd :) .

What a game Boys HBCC start off the season on a high remember the win boys. Like Skipper Jeggels sais we will have some questionable games some low games, remember what it feels like to win.

Big thanks to Rhodes for the case of beers after a knife edge finish of a game, the beer went down really well and humbly appreciated it thanks for the hospitality guys. 

Team spirit is High and now onto the next game: Kwadwesi at the Dan.
