Heatherbank CC versus United

 

 

 

Just like Sum 41 sings "I don't wanna waste my time become another casualty of society."

 

So did Heatherbank Supers Saturday 17th November 2012. The Super league side took on United in there SA group 2 clash @ hetharbank1 10am.

A couple changes to the side this week, we see Kurt (Hubbly) Abrahams come back into the side for the first time this season, DP cricket Whindog taking the gloves for the first time this season and we welcome the Kunjani Kid back into the fould to take the injured Eugene Barnards spot.

The Heatherbank outfit sent united into bat and just like the song sais didn't wast much time after senior opening bowler "Kunjani to the world" aka Duncan "Grant and Anele" dismisses the United opener first ball.

Bit of an unlucky dismissal but none the less a first baller late on to the ball that rushed him and rolled towards the wickets and dislodged the bails.

 

Then it seemed easy pickings for the two openers D. Nel and J. Ellis who took 7 wickets between them for 58 runs. couple of single over through fours take them away and they could have been something like 17 overs 50 runs 7 wickets between the two. Jade has eased himself into the side and too him must be thinking "what's the problem guys this is a dolley of a game".

It didn't look to convincing from behind the wicket the United boys top 5 using a D&P bat couldn't hit the ball for nothing it seemed LBW's, Caught off the gloves bowled... Come on guys DP is awesome use the bat. But well batted to Vabz who top scored for them 24 odd.

 

I Digress....

 

 

Jade finished on 3/28 in 7 and the Kunjani Kid well these were the words I heard on the field "skip I am fresh, I have never taken a fifer in Super League cricket Please let me bowl through I know it is coming". 7 overs to 8 overs later the Big Opener is amped and he is 4 for 20+. The Big Wern comes on after a change at the top end Jade come off and gets a wicket 1st ball of his spell. Then the Wern a couple balls later twists his ankle, Ugly and retires from the game bringing on The Whaopam Jeggels Style to tweak the ball around for the rest of the over and debutant 12th man FILL THE WATER BOTTLES YOUNGSTER Elnatan Meiri(Welcome to Super League Buddy).   

 

I digress again, yes back to Kunjani Nel, picture the scene its a perfect script written for the opening bowler, he is on 4 wickets the edge has been found twice through the gully region and 3rd slip area during the morning session he then gets a third slip in place by the captain there is something going to happen we can feel it. There is an edge where tooo: 3rd slip O its Russell safe hands....................................................................

Let me tell you he says too us that's my 3rd fifer I have dropped at heatherbank.

and let me tell you after the drop he takes a blinder another blinder taken on the day Timmie Whale with his one hander over his head at backward point. 

 

Well after the fun and games on the field we bowled the united side out for 89 and Duncan left on 4/30 in 10overs. Which left the boys focused on a chase but not to become to complacent because we need to finish off properly like the talented bunch of misfits we have in this side.

NOW TO HEATHERBANK CC INNINGS

To the Batting welcoming back into the side the "why always me" Friend of a friend Kurt the Hubbly Abrahams is opening the batting with The one and only Japes.

Japes gets another inside edge LBW decision :( hey its your shot it seems bud get too a hundred rather and do that please.

Robey promoted too 3 comes in and with Kurt form a solid partnership. Kurt kept the solid performance and stability why Robey showed the class and enforcement needed.

A couple of miscued free hits, boundaries and a massive six  but the boys finish it off in style.

 

 

Robey finnished the game on 38 off 30 balls and Kurt 27 off 48 balls a clinical win for the Heatherbank Supers boys.

Who now find themselves:

Played: 6

Won: 4

Shared points: 1 Rained out

Loss: 2

 

LUNCH and the Tannie has made for the boys a Chicken a-la King and Peas( "I hate Peas") and Rice its a main meal and a half what a beaut of a meal. The Tannie just keeps out doing herself  #8.5

The Double Header Weekend

E-Ore, E-Ore

O St Georges how we are in awe of you. I think this might have been the consensus from most of the guys.

We anticipated this game so much I think we didn't mentally prepare properly.

 

At St Georges can some tell JP walk by faith bud, I think we all needed to step in that POOP too.

 

St Georges Park played host to the Supers and the Prems of Heatherbank Cricket Club in there league clashes versus PECC Saturday 10th November(MOvember) 2012

   Look at all them Mo's

and there are more in the side believe it.

 

The Prems battered first on the back field and were bowled out for 113:

 Kurt Abrahams scoring 20 odd. You can see him above.

 

The Supers at the same point in time fielded first and PECC got 263.

 

The two teams lost, Prems lost by 7 wickets and the Supers were bowled out for 173. Just a mention to Big Wern (warhaan) Bowled ten overs on the trot and picked up 3 sticks at a crucial time working with Timmy at the other end in a great spell of bowling. And  the JP carrying on the performance with the bat getting 58 and been given out hitting the ball into his foot :(

 

The first loss for the Supers and we still need to remember that winning feeling boys the whole club is buzzing and that great spirit is still there we must keep remembering that winning feeling never forget it.

Gelvandale

Sunday 11th October

The Heatherbank Supers need a win against the Gelvandale side. After Our warm up surely we can capatalize.

It was not too be Gelvandale went into bat first and put on 204/all out. Old mistakes still happening but to restrict Gelvan to 200 after our performance in the field we were poised at Lunch. A great debut on the Youngster Jade Ellis welcome... Kunjani (what Duncan couldn't play unfortunate we missed the kunjani buzz) A great debut to the youngster taking 1/40 a great prospect for the club and he only 17 playing his first Super league game. Well Done Jade.

 Team in the follow up with the bat. Not going to say much about the batting performance Heatherbank 107 all out.

Not a good performance this weekend from the Heatherbank CC sides Hard week of training boys.. Lets prepare and fight back to hit the final 3 games of the year in the teeth.

 

Thanks to all the Supporters who came down to the games and constantly attend our games and support us. We apologise for our performances this weekend, we will come back fighting. "Its not the size of the owl in the fight, But the size of the fight in the Owl" EB. This double header weekend saw DP cricket player Eugene Barnard go out with a torn quad injury, we wish him a fast and speedy recovery.

Heatherbank Supers Play NMMU2

Heatherbank CC + NMMU2 Showdown.

Sunday 28th October saw Heatherbank C C Super league side take on NMMU 2's at home.
The first league clash of the season for the super league side at home. Spirits and buzz is high after our previous two (2) games.

Apparently the varsity side were reluctant to play as there was to much grass on the prepared strip pah. "Whatever Mingas" Well whatever the whining lot say, the game went on.
Master blasting toss winning skipper Riaan Jeggels puts the varsity side into bat. An up and down start for the varsity side pretty much only runs backward of square flash.. flash is all I saw.  A break through comes when the big man on campus aka Melman gets the wicket of the flashy opener. A great catch from the Welsy. In all games a partnership occurs and at drinks Heatherbank need to pull it back as the varsity going smoothly.

Gino comes back on to take a Hershall Contraveshall world cup catch well it was a caught and bowled, which got the umpires talking or conversing for a while and the NMMU batsman  throwing his toys out of his crib as he was given out cause that's what he looked like tuning on guys who weren't even talking to him.

Heatherbank start to tighten the screws after a drop catch few miss fields to come back to restrict the varsity side to 195/9 after they could have gotten 230 plus. Well done boys.

Werner Potgieter Said Heatherbank CC wouldn't even get 150 runs against the Varsity Side........ Just Saying what he bet me!

Lunch is served the Tannie puts out awesome burger and chips together for the boys. #7

The boys catch up on some liquids and banter and the Heatherbank boys prepare to go out to bat.
Opening the batting is the cramping JP and a bit of a change up today in the Line-Up the pac-man (No not Packirie) but the other pac-man aka Shaun the Whindog Whinney gets given the chance to open the batting for the supers side for the first time ever. I say Ever!

Lasting 9 overs at the crease Whindog gets caught behind leaving the cramped JP at the wicket who was struggling to run and about to give up. Enters Russell he departs early. Bringing the inform Dikkus to the crease. It was like he was still batting at the Dan taking that red ball from where he left off hitting the NMMU bowlers to all parts. A bit of a chuck here and a bit of a spin attack here nothing could stop him goodbye ball. JP playing a great support role, Cramping - where. We asked ourselves. Who needs to run when you guys are dealing in boundaries. Werner Potgieter into the attack brother versus brother. But un-luckily its was Werns to Jegges a good dot ball but unfortunately the other 5 balls went for the maximum leaving JP saying ag nee man dis my boetie... need  Jeggels but Jeggie was on fire I think he made 100 runs in boundaries. If anyone is wanting a ball there is a kooka still in the grass on the Villiers side if you have the energy to spend time looking for it.

2 Wickets down and the two boys are going strong. Dikkus departs after another impressive Ton 116 runs later the side needs 4 to win enter the big man melman and he dispatches the ball for four giving heatherbank the win Leaving the Japes on an unbeaten 68*

EP Amateur Cricket Board Cancels All Cricket

 

Unfortunately No Cricket was played Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st of October. A proper wash out.

 

Rather invest in the a row boat or better yet this contraption I saw on Freakbook available from Seaview Hardware perfect for PE wet conditions:

Eastern Cape has struggled with a drought problem in recent times "I believe". Since I have returned from the UK I cant say I have seen it I think its a conspiracy. But none the less there are water tanks, buckets and tubs to catch water you could have fooled me.

 

A British Summer time would have been proud of the amount of water that has fallen this past week YOEF.  

 

 

This storm has really been to work and even affected our club entrance, you will have to be trained in tree climbing to enter the ground from now on.  Maybe this could be a good team building exercise in running the September at practise a September obstacle course.. .. mmmmm just saying Duppie:

 

 
 
 



  Well I Trust everyone had a great wet weekend. My apologies and sympathies go out to all affected by this rain and damage it has caused. Hope all can recover from the set back and move on. So lets look forward to the Summer well will there be summer, and we can look forward to this next week ahead. Will it rain or will it be dry the heavens only know and that is the question. But its Shared point all round and Hetherbank are still unbeaten Go the Good Guys!!

So the morning started off rather ominously, half the guys meeting at the club and the other half deciding to meet at the Dan… And as usual no one can get hold of Robey…no phone calls, no messages….nothing.  Just as we decide to leave the club , in rolls Robey like a spring zephyr looking like he stepped off the beach in his BRIGHT ORANGE shorts and slip slops and wearing a hat that we are all sure came from the set of a “Crocodile Dundee” movie.

So we get to the Dan and WOW what a transformation… from last years cracked up pitch and gravel beds in the out field to what looked like a decent wicket and an actual out field…. With grass! So it was a little slow but at least no one had to dive on gravel!

With Heatherbank batting first, the guys seemed positive and were looking to score big…Our openers JP and Wellsey walk in with a ”don’t worry we got this” air among the guys…

First over… snick…and every fielder this side of the world seemed to hear it and go up…..our middle order nervously stretching to don pads….NOT OUT! Bat on pad.

But a few balls later JP is out, starting a procession that resembled the GREAT TREK. In walks our VC Brian “stato” Riddle and a few balls later out he comes.

 ENTER RIAAN JEGGELS…..first ball and its dug in short…WHALLOOOOP!6… Next ball surely has to be full… short again WHALLOOOOOOOOP! ITS EVEN BIGGER! Great way to open your account any day I’d say!

Wellsey  proceeds to go out and Robey strolls in and shortly afterwards out he comes and with Russel doing the same we suddenly have lower order batsmen scrambling to get ready, nerves rattled at what looks like our top and middle order were holding a 90% off sale on wickets. Werner “BIG fern” Badenhorst is next in and plays a supporting role to master blaster “Jeggie” right through to drinks in which time Riaan has played his way past 50 seemingly oblivious of the earlier wickets dropping like flys on the other end. With Wern departing in the power play for a patient and well played 25 and Riaan joined by Tim it looked like we still had a chance of posting a decent total. Riaan continued to score at will and it seemed to be raining boundaries including a ^ onto the roof and one that nearly killed our scorer Fritzy…who by the way travelled all the way to the Dan to support and help.

Into the nervous 90’s Riaan went with a 6 over the sight screen . the problem is we think Tim was more nervous than Riaan was, almost running himself out 3 times while “Jeggie” was on 99.Flashes of Donald and Klusner at the world cup sprang to mind as it seemed like we needed that run to win.

The hundred finally came up and Riaan raises his arms. Casually hands Tim his bat and proceeds to “GANGNAM STYLE IT” centre pitch. He went on to score 120 in 108 balls including 7 fours and ….. 11 sixes  in his 138 minute stay at the crease.-The first super league hundred at Heatherbank in 3 seasons.

Coming down to the last few overs it was time for the lower order to show what they made of and score some quick runs.

Local D&P boy Shaun “ pac man “ Whinney walks in and shortly after Tim falls for a valiant 25 having supported Riaan all the way.Duncan “JA NO LEKKA “ Nel walks in and is bounced out leaving the D&P combo of Whinney and last man Gino at the crease with the mission to survive the full 50 overs. Surely tho, number 9 and 11 cant string too many partnerships together…But team D&P score with a flurry of boundaries and good running between the wickets to notch up another unbeaten stand of 20 odd taking their average last wicket partnership close to 80 run average,  with Gino scoring 16 off 8 and Whinney ending on a pac man score of 6 off 12 bringing the team score to 275/9

 

LUNCH REPORT: hot dogs, no marge but plenty of sauce to make up for it and bottle of cola… another 6 #

After a nice stretch it was time to bowl with Gino and Duncan sharing the new ball working as a partnership with Gino striking and Duncan trying to keep it tight… and another trend seems to develop other than the steady fall of wickets….4 out of their top 6 going out on the last ball of an over. Dunc's finished up on 2/36 off 6 after some lusty hacking by a few of the kwadwesi guys and Gino claiming his 5’fer and then sending down a snorter of a Yorker to cartwheel middle stump because as he says… no 5’er is complete without seeing some stumps fly! Gino finished on 6/30 off 10 straight overs leaving the spinners to finish them off. The Kwadwesi guys put up a solid defence but with JP taking a wicket and them 9 down with just short of 200 to still get it was inevitable, with Russell finishing off for us with a run out and toll gate taking the bails off!

 

Thanks to all the guys who came out to support Uncle Pat, Polla and especially to Fritzy aka Sledge machine for scoring and to Robey for looking after our scorer  ;-)

Congrats to Riaan and Eugene on their performances and all the guys on an emphatic win….

Welcome to Rhodes

 Heatherbank (Supers) Cricket Club versus Rhodes, 7th October 2012

Welcome to the D&P cricket Blog. I have taken it upon myself to start a blog post\ match report on behalf of D&P cricket Port Elizabeth.
Heatherbank C C is not only the Club I play for but the Club I love playing for and it has members that support and back D&P cricket.

Take our Supers this season 4 members in the squad now using full kit and 2 other members using gloves and other apparel.
Enough rambling now onto the match report:

Heatherbank CC travelled up to G-Town(Grahamstown) Bright and early on the 7/10/2012 let me just say a Sunday morning of all days.
It would not be a trip to Rhodes without the trusted toilet stop oh wait no wrong year at Nanaga, but it wouldn't be a trip without a Nanaga stop  for a Pie or rooster brood. Unfortunately not the day for Pie's only pies we saw was on the field.
We arrived yet again at Rhodes without any change rooms being open things will never change O well to the cricket.
Heatherbank C C fielded first on an overcast day in GTown a sticky\wettish and grassy track. We put Rhodes early under pressure had them 46/4 then 60odd for 5 down, but like the saying goes the tail must waggggggggg.
We bowled Rhodes out on the last ball of the innings for 185 runs. Robey and the Apple I pod Eugene both got 3 wickets a piece. It was a mediocre start for Heatherbank C C in the field after our friendly but much better. To restrict them to 185 with our fielding one just thinks they should never have even gotten past 130 - drop catch here and many missed fielding errors in the field as Robey would say come on Toll Gates.
Never the less the score was on the board and the chase down would have to happen.

Good lunch start to the season what would be referred to in England as Teas served and Job done!

As we headed into bat team sensed calm and relaxed but once again the Heatherbank CC Super league cricket team were under pressure with the bat we found ourselves 40 odd for 3 and then 44 odd for 4 after a risky run out seeing Riddle departing. Then the fight back from M. Robey and Russel dD muscling it around to get us into fighting chance putting together a good partnership. Russel departs after guiding the ball down to Thirdman and Is brilliantly caught by the keeper, making a good 22 and Robey getting a questionable LBW for 43 game poised now with Werner and Tim trying to claw our way back we found ourselves needing 57 as Whinney enters with 3 wickets in hand. "All that is need is 4 runs an over" wise words from Werner. As Werner falls and Duncan falls from the ball holding back on a length like it has done all day popping and being caught and bowled. It is now left to the D&P team Gino and Whinney once again enjoying there 2nd partnership of the season. Now needing 22 off 3 overs and feeling the BMT is now needed.
A four is hit here and a couple of 2's we found ourselves needing 11 of the last over tense stuff I say tense stuff I wasn't in the stands but I can imagine what was going on. The guys not knowing whether to sit stand or breathe. LAST OVER, Whinney on strike Jonty bowls single first ball 10 off the last 5. Eugene calm and poised we get 4 off the next 3. Crunch time we feel something is going to happen. Jonty bowls and Gino hits him straight over Mid On "Remember 6 to win" is it SIX What - What is that the game HBCC rush off the stand just short. FOUR. 2 needed now off the last ball. Eugene and Whinney know, no matter what we running the last ball. Jonty Bowls a short ball Gino Hooks over short Fine Leg on the 45 and we run...... 1..... 2            HBCC WIN wait Whinney still running the 3rd :) .

What a game Boys HBCC start off the season on a high remember the win boys. Like Skipper Jeggels sais we will have some questionable games some low games, remember what it feels like to win.

Big thanks to Rhodes for the case of beers after a knife edge finish of a game, the beer went down really well and humbly appreciated it thanks for the hospitality guys. 

Team spirit is High and now onto the next game: Kwadwesi at the Dan.
